SAM (System for Award Management)

What is SAM?
The System for Award Management (SAM) is eight federal procurement systems combined into one along with the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance. SAM was designed to streamline the process of both obtaining and procuring federal contracts by integrating these systems.

This process is being split up into four phases with phase one including all functions from the following systems:

  • (CCR) Central Contractor Registration
  • (FedReg) Federal Agency Registration
  • (ORCA) Online Representations and Certifications Application
  • (EPLS) Excluded Parties List System

What benefits are associated with being registered in SAM?

One system equals one user login and reduces the risk of not being properly registered in all required systems.
It virtually eliminates the requirement to enter the same information multiple times.
It eliminates multiple expiration dates reducing the possibility of missing a contract for improper registration.

How can you be sure SAM is being handled properly?
Changes in government contract requirements often cause confusion and frustration amongst most users, including the government. Although it is the responsibility of the agency or contractor to keep their information current, errors in data can lead to missing a contract and protests from other entities that result in loss of a contract. The government is highly recommending users to analyze their registration to prevent potential problems and delays for both the contractor and the agency.

The fastest and most efficient way to complete this transition is by obtaining a federal contracting consultant. Consultants are experts in government requirements and regulations and will walk you through the federal maze making sure that not only are you 100% compliant, but that you are also successful in this venture.
