Top 3 Reasons to Avoid Sam.gov

When starting a government contracting business, one must complete the SAM registration as part of the setup process of the business to receive rewards. While this process can be completed on your own, we recommend every business consider using our process instead. Why work with a third party for your SAM registration? Below are a few reasons that should convince you to use our services for your registration needs.

www.Sam.Gov is a Difficult Site to Understand

To begin, the website provided by the government for SAM is confusing. If you have ever filled out an application online for a service or benefit from the government, then you should know just how confusing government created sites actually are. To register for SAM, you will need to understand CAGE codes. If you are a foreign registering individual, then you will need to understand NCAGE codes. Additional acronyms will also need to be understood, such as POCs, FARS, MPIN, DFARS, and PSCs, along with many others.

All of these codes and acronyms can be overwhelming, especially if this is the first time you are applying for registration. If you are not confused yet, you will be after you read the Quick Guide for Contract Registrations offered by the government that is said to be ‘helpful’. The government does want businesses to take advantage of contracting opportunities that are available, but the different terms and organizations that must be understood make the process so confusing, it can be difficult to know what you need for the SAM registration.

Registration Process is Long and Arduous

Another reason to use our services for your SAM registration is to avoid a long and arduous process, which can take up to two full days to complete. To be able to bid on government contracts, you need to visit www.Sam.Gov and create an account to be a registered user. Creating such an account shouldn’t be a difficult process. Most feel that it would be creating a username and password, however, it is not that simple. The creation of an account is just the beginning of a long process.

First, you will need to select the type of account you need, either a system account or as an individual user. Do you know which type you need? To know which account type you require, you will need to read a list of options and then determine which suits you best and select the right one.

After that has been determined, you will need to provide contact info which includes an email and telephone number. You will need to choose your preferred method of contact from these two choices and why you prefer the option, create your username and password and answer security questions to get started.

Now your account is set up. So you should be ready to find contracts, right? No. Once your account has been confirmed, you will need to log in. Once logged in, you need to set up your account with business information including a DUNS number, Taxpayer ID as well as business bank account info that includes the account number and routing number. This is only a portion of what is required.

You also need to provide information during the application process which includes the North American Industry Classification System codes (NAICS) if you want to be open to a public search. You will also need to complete a Small Business Profile for the SBA Dynamic Small Business Search if you have a small business.

There are resources you can access for free that will walk you step by step through the process. Even YouTube offers videos on how to register. However, it can take as much as 15 hours or even longer to research the SAM registration process and complete the application. This is a timeframe that most business owners cannot spend filling out paperwork and researching.

It makes the most sense to hire a third-party registration service to complete the long process for you. This way, you can focus on what’s important, your business.
